Wednesday, 23 June 2010 |

Toby Stevens features in an article in Computer Weekly, in which he describes his concerns and ideas for improving information security practices in the public sector. "The government was centralising and aggregating data in a way that private companies would shy away from doing," said Stevens. A lack of accountability and security controls means we have seen "brand new systems bought with no attention to security," he added. You can read the full article here. No Comments | Views: 146 |

BigBrotherWatch reports on the launch of the Identity & Passport's new propaganda blog that aims to push the 'benefits' of ID cards on to the public: "The new identity card. Fits in your pocket. Does loads." Quoting Toby Stevens' interview with the BBC last year , they point out that "in the early days, private companies won't be aware of what an ID card is supposed to look like, nor will they have the equipment to check the cards electronically, so 'flash and dash' is inevitable." Should businesses put a price on privacy? - Information Age |
Tuesday, 23 March 2010 |
Information Age reports on 'the Privacy Dividend,' a new report from the information Commissioner's Office that builds on EPG's 'Privacy by Design' to help businesses to understand the value of privacy. Quoted in the article, Toby Stevens says: "‘The Privacy Dividend ’ is a welcome early step towards achieving the vision of ‘Privacy by Design ’ – an environment in which organisations respect privacy and go beyond the requirements of the Data Protection Act when they handle personal information.
"We need to break away from the compliance-driven approach to data protection, and by properly understanding the value of personal data – and the costs of failing to govern it effectively – organisations will have an incentive to invest in privacy management rather than doing the bare minimum to comply with legislation and regulations." |
Monday, 18 January 2010 |
Computer Weekly reports on the hacks against Google, quoting EPG's Toby Stevens: "From a corporate perspective, cloud computing still poses a risk, he says, and the evidence of Google's fallibility, which applies equally to any other cloud service provider, should be a wake-up call for organisations.
"Any business that allows sensitive personal or commercial information to enter the cloud without adequate controls is at risk from similar attacks," says Stevens. No Comments | Views: 397 |
